What size in pixels do I need for a print-ready A4 document?
At the print standard of 300 DPI, A4 is 2480 × 3508 px (210 ÷ 25.4 × 300 and 297 ÷ 25.4 × 300, both rounded). That’s the size to design or export at for brochures, flyers and anything headed to a commercial printer.
What is A4 in pixels for a screen PDF or on-screen document?
At 96 DPI — the reference resolution browsers and most UI design tools use — A4 is 794 × 1123 px. That’s enough detail for reading on a screen or a PDF that never gets printed, at a much smaller file size than a 300 DPI export.
How does A4 relate to A3 and A5 in size?
The ISO 216 series is built so each size folds exactly in half into the next: fold A3 in half and you get A4; fold A4 in half and you get A5. Each step down halves the area (and each step up doubles it), while keeping the same width-to-height ratio throughout the series.
Why do Word and Photoshop show different pixel dimensions for the same A4 page?
Word defines its A4 page in inches/points and only converts to pixels for on-screen display, typically at 96 DPI — it has no native “pixel” size. Photoshop instead rasterizes the page at whatever resolution (PPI) you chose when you created the document, so a 72 PPI file and a 300 PPI file give completely different px counts for the same physical A4 sheet.
Why isn’t there one single number for “A4 in pixels”?
Because a millimeter has no pixel size until you pick a DPI. A4’s physical dimensions (210 × 297 mm) never change, but the pixel count scales with whatever resolution you’re exporting or displaying at — 595 × 842 px at 72 DPI versus 2480 × 3508 px at 300 DPI is the same sheet of paper.
